Time for BOOKS and BOOTIES! Can someone say Bloggy Giveaway time???

That's right! It's time for the quarterly Bloggy Giveaway Carnival! Be sure to sign up for some great giveaways :) There's bound to be lots of great stuff!

I haven't participated in the past few carnivals because life has been so busy. By the time I realized there was one going on, it was already mid-week and too late to give something away. Five kids under the age of seven will do that to a person!

Not this time!

My love of crocheting and my love of books will be combined into what each winner will receive!

There will be TWO winners...yes TWO! Each winner will receive a book and a pair of booties!

The booties have yet to be made since it's up to you whether they are for a boy or a girl...and I also need to know the age of the child you are wanting them for (up to a year old)!

Here is a picture of booties I made for my little girl....

The pair you receive will be similar to this, but different colors of course!

The books up for grabs are:

Here is a brief synopsis:
Are you prepared to address the most challenging cultural issues of your time?

Mass media and technology are exploding. Popular entertainment relentlessly pushes the envelope. Biomedicine stretches ethical boundaries. Political issues shift with the polls.

The world in which you live is in the midst of a major cultural transformation–one leading to a widespread lack of faith, an increase in moral relativism, and a rejection of absolute truth. How are we to remain faithful followers of Christ as we live in this ever-shifting culture? How should we think about–and respond to–the crucial moral questions of our day? How can we stand up for the truth?

In Culture Shift, Dr. R. Albert Mohler–one of today’s leading Christian thinkers and spokespersons–addresses these tough topics clearly, biblically and passionately:

•Christian faith and politics
•The Supreme Court and religion
•The truth about terrorism
•Christian parents and public schools
•The abortion debate
•Christian response to global tragedies
•And many more

Here is trustworthy help for developing a comprehensive Christian worldview. It’s timely information powerfully connected to timeless truth that will equip you to stand strong and speak out.

The second book to be given away is:

A brief synopsis:

What does Jesus mean when he says, “Follow me”?

The first edition of The Gospel According to Jesus won wide acclaim in confronting the “easy-believism” that has characterized some aspects of evangelical Christianity. Over the past 50 years, a handful of books have become true classics, revered world-wide for their crystal-clear presentation of the Gospel and lauded for their contribution to the Christian faith. These extraordinary books are read, re-read, and discussed in churches, Bible study groups, and homes everywhere. John MacArthur’s The Gospel According to Jesus is one of those books. In The Gospel According to Jesus, MacArthur tackles the idea of “easy believism,” challenging Christians to re-evaluate their commitment to Christ by examining their fruits. MacArthur asks, “What does it really mean to be saved?” He urges readers to understand that their conversion was more than a mere point in time, that, by definition, it includes a lifetime of obediently walking with Jesus as Lord. This 20th anniversary edition of MacArthur’s provocative, Scripture-based book contains one new chapterand is further revised to provide Christians in the 21st century a fresh perspective on the intrinsic relationship between faith and works, clearly revealing Why Jesus is both Savior and Lord to all who believe.

To be one of the winners of this giveaway, you have to leave me a comment answering this:

What book, second to the Bible, has had the most significant affect on your life? and WHY?

And if you win, who will be receiving the booties?

Be sure I have access to your email address! You don't need to have a blog to leave a comment...just be sure I have a way to contact you.

The winners will be chosen by Saturday, January 31st!!

  1. Ok, let's see...maybe So Great Salvation by Charles Ryrie. It was a big part of a paradigm shift for me...a shift from a previously unknown works-centered theology I had, to deeper appreciation for God's grace and the impact of Christ's work on the cross. There are others...but I'll stick with that one for now.
The booties would be for my baby girl. She's 8 months old, and I hope, hope, hope I win, because I LOVE the booties you make!!

  2. This is hard for me! I actually read this post last night and decided not to answer right away, because I couldn't narrow it down to one book. (I spend most of my spare time reading, and I'm always reading a few books at a time - I devour books!)

I guess it's technically not a book, but Tim Keller's Galatians study, aka "Preaching the Gospel to Yourself" completely changed my life and walk. Up to that point, I was so mired down in the works-based merit that had been hammered into my head as a child. It was during that study that I finally began to understand grace, and I identify that study as a total turning point in my life.

Okay, so, some other influential books (in case Bible studies don't count, or if anyone is looking for a good read!). Books that were influential to me as a wife and mom, "Feminine Appeal" by Carolyn Mahaney; "Created to be His Help Meet" by Debi Pearl. On being a wife specifically, "For Women Only" by Shaunti Feldhahn. On parenting specifically, "Shepherding a Child's Heart" by Tedd Tripp, "To Train Up a Child" by Michael and Debi Pearl. On personal trials and suffering, "The Hidden Smile of God" by John Piper. On relationships with other believers, "The Emotionally Healthy Church" by Peter Scazzero (done as a staff training retreat for the ministry my husband and I serve in). On my own sinfulness and the battles that go on every day, "The ScrewTape Letters" by CS Lewis.

Wow, and that's just the short list, hahaha! :o) The booties would be for my little girl, who's almost 10 months old. I love those little booties, but knitting escapes me. I can sew, but those great big needles frighten me a bit! lauren42282@hotmail.com

  17. Let's see, I don't know if I could narrow it down to one book (aside from the scriptures), but two books that have vastly impacted my life in the areas of knowledge and practical theology are John Owen's Biblical Theology and Mortification of Sin.

Also, I already have those books you are giving away...

I would love to win those booties. We are expecting our third (in two weeks or so) they would go on her. I promise to send a picture :)

  26. Trusting God Even When Life Hurts by Jerry Bridges. It was given to us by a dear friend when our son Jonah passed away shortly after birth in 2002. We didn't really understand the doctrine of God's sovereignty at that time. That was almost 7 years ago. It still, to this day is my favorite book and I return to it all the time. It has informed big life cirsumstances as well as trusting for the everyday moments too.

As for the booties...they would be for my most recently born son, Eli, who is almost 4 months old.

  27. Besides the Bible, I think the book that has had the most impact on me is Debi Pearl's Created to Be His Helpmeet. While I don't agree with several of the Pearls' teachings, this book was just what I needed to refocus my thinking and attitude about my family. It caused me to really ask myself, What do I want in this life? Am I going to serve myself or am I going to serve my family and, by doing so, serve the Lord? Am I going to put everything I have into this blessed life I've been given or am I going to spend my time pining away for things that really have no substance? It was just a real turn-around for me and led me down a road that now involves lots of kids, homeschooling, and more happiness with my husband than I could ever imagine! :)

The booties will go to our new baby Avalon Grace who will be arriving sometime within the next 6 weeks or so.

    Thanks for a great giveaway!

  28. The Trail of Blood. My Dad gave it to me as a child. It showed how our Christian Faith came to be and how many people died to keep it alive throughout history. Through this book you realize that you may actually be faced with dying to kept God's truth from being wiped off the face of the earth by Satan's followers.
As far as Bioethical Issues, there is no reason stem cells need to come from embryo's. There are stem cells in our first baby teeth. So if you want stem cells harvested and kept for your child, have a baby tooth pulled and the pulp of it extracted and harvested. They harvest cord blood and store it for many children now, and soon they can, if not already are, saving extracted stem cells from the pulp of a baby tooth.

I would give the booties to my best friend who lives 1000 miles away in Texas. Her baby is due in July. We were actually pregnant together and our due dates were 1 day apart, but I miscarried and I would love for her to have something special--because she's been so wonderful to me through this time.

  52. I have been impacted by several books but the one coming to mind right now is Better Than School. I wasn't planning to homeschool until I found that book sticking out of the shelf at the library. The Lord really talked to me through that book. When I told my pastor's wife what I had read, she said that book fell off the shelf and hit her on the head and she read it before I did and had a similar reaction. I'll be starting my 20th year of homeschooling in August!
